Steam Onward with support from the Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance, is assisting home gardeners, faith-based centers, and community organizations start up vegetable and herb gardens.

Whether you have a large or small yard, or even a sunny window, it’s possible to produce a number of food-producing plants and herbs. The basic requirements are soil, water, a source of nutrition like compost or fertilizers, direct sunlight for about 6 – 8 hours each day.

Tiller Corps: Steps in Preparing Your Garden

STEP 1

First mark off a location you would like converted into a garden. Generally 15'x 30' or smaller. As the saying goes, "tend a small garden well." Larger spaces will require additional costs.

STEP 2

Take a picture of the marked off area and email it to services@steamonward.org. We will contact you and set up a time to start the work.

STEP 3

Following social distancing guidelines, our team will till up the demarcated space agreed upon and prep it for planting.

STEP 4

We are providing a tilling service for folks who desire to start a garden. Any additional gardening services, such as planting and garden maintenance are not part of the tilling fee. We do have seeds and seedlings. Click Link for FARMMACY SEEDS

STEP 5

PRICING: $250 for a 30 ft x 15 ft area = 450 sq ft or smaller. Please email services@steamonward.org for questions and pricing for tilling areas larger than 450 sq ft. We will try to work with your budget. We're in this together.

THE TIILER CORPS SERVICE IS ONLY FOR CLIENTS IN THE WASHINGTON DC/MARYLAND/VIRGINIA METROPOLITAN AREA.

THE BASIC TILLER CORPS FEE of $150 covers the tilling of a 450 square foot area. Proceeds support the youth in YRCP and associated equipment needs. Any additional gardening services are not part of the basic Tiller Corps fee.
